Dahi Handi Festival : Human Pyramids

I had the chance to witness and to take part in the Dahi Handi festival. Dahi Handi is a famous sportive event organized in the cities of Maharashtra and Goa. Dahi Handi is celebrated on the next day of Krishna Janmashtami. Krishna Janmashtami is also called as Gokulashtami. Dahi Handi celebration commemorates the way of living of Lord Krishna. In His childhood, young Krishna was very fond of curd (indian yoghurt) and butter. While growing up the fondness of curd and butter increased and young Krishna became notorious for stealing it.

The participants have to form a pyramid consisting usually below 9-tiers, and are given three attempts to break the earthen pot in the air.

I joined a team of 20 men, and we broke the pot. I was at the second tier and I could feel the pressure of 2 more tiers over me ! It was a crazy experience !

Once the pot is broken by a team, the group is awarded a big amount of money : usually from 1 lakh to 12 lakhs (US$1,500 to US$18,000).

An Indian College

I have been attending college for 20 days now ! My college is Sathaye College and it's located in Vile Parle. The college offers different courses, the main ones being Science ; Commerce and Arts, for teenagers from 15 to 20. It isn't a very big college (price of land is extremely expensive).

This is a standard classroom with seats for 60 people.

The teacher stands at the blackboard for classes of 40 minutes.

All the room are  equipped with fans.

The teacher do their classes in English (Hinglish as they say).

The rooms also have CCTVs. The staff in the office watches if the classes are going on normally.

This is a corridor after class.
